Dave and Gina Jones

God placed a clear burden and calling for the inner city on Dave and Gina’s hearts when they
entered marriage 23 years ago. Since that time they have been active in various ministries with children, youth and
their families. They have lived their entire marriage in inner city Denver and have served in ministry with Youth For
Christ, Neighborhood Ministries and most recently, Here’s Life Inner City.
Both Dave and Gina have similar experiences of coming into a relationship with Jesus. Dave was in high school, two
Christian men reached out to him with the love of Christ, and at 18 years of age he made a decision to surrender his life
over to the Lord. Gina likewise was a teen when she put her faith in Christ. She participated in the church
choir and during one of the altar calls (actually intended for those attendees – not for the choir members) Gina’s
heart was struck and she came to know Christ for the first time. Where Dave and Gina’s story is similar is the
gratefulness they have for the men and women who committed themselves to youth ministry. Their encounter with God,
through the faithfulness of Godly men and women, continues to inspire them to this day. Their heart is to be used by
the Lord to encourage others to reach out with that same message of love and forgiveness that they experienced years ago.
Dave gives leadership to the Denver Here’s Life Inner City team. Gina supports the ministry through her gifts of
hospitality and encouragement. Dave and Gina have three sons, Nathan, Ryan and Tony.

Shawn and Liliana Taylor
|
 |
|
Shawn and Lil have been serving with Here’s Life Inner City Denver since 2006. They have two
beautiful children, Ty (age 3) and Ryan Emily (age 1).
Shawn and Lil both moved around while growing up (including time in foreign countries). Lil was born and raised in Mexico but
finished high school in New Mexico, while Shawn spent several years growing up in England. They met and married in Las
Cruces, NM while attending New Mexico State University.
Both received Christ as their savior in their youth, but it was through their involvement with Campus Crusade for Christ in
college that they really began to grow in their relationship with Him. As student leaders, they were able to invest in the
lives of other college students, and that passion and experience continues to drive their work with HLIC today.
As students in 2001, they participated in an 8 week Summer Urban Project in Denver, CO. God used this experience mightily in
their lives and they now happily give leadership to this same summer project in hopes of exposing other young people to
God’s heart for the city.
In addition, Shawn and Liliana give leadership to a young adult ministry at their home church in southwest Denver. Their young
adult group meets weekly and has just about outgrown their home.

Jean Johnston

Jean Johnston reported to the Here's Life Inner City Denver staff team in March of 2004. Jean comes to
us from Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she grew up and attended college. She graduated from the University of New Mexico in
2002 (with a degree in Religious Studies and Psychology). While in college, Jean participated in the Summer Urban Project in
Denver (during the summer of 2001). While on that project, Jean began praying about the possibility of doing inner city ministry
full-time. God ultimately led her back to Denver about a year after she graduated from college.
Jean grew up in Spanish-speaking neighborhoods in Albuquerque and comes from a low-income background herself.
In 1992, at the age of 13, Jean became a Christian and God transformed her life forever. Jesus Christ has changed her life
and she desires for Him to use her to help change other lives in the inner city as well.
She is currently working on the SAY Yes/Children's Development team in Denver and serves as the SAY Yes City Coordinator.
Part of her role includes working with SAY Yes Directors in the city and resourcing them to effectively reach the
at-risk kids in their after-school programs. Jean also works directly with SAY Yes teenagers at a church in West Denver
(in a predominantly hispanic/latino neighborhood) where she helps lead the teen SAY Yes program. Her youth engage in Bible
studies, work on their homework, take business skills classes, and run their own silk-screening business ("Youth
Scribble Ink") as a part of their program.
Jean loves working on the HLIC team here in Denver and looks forward to seeing what God will do here in the future. She is
passionate about engaging the body of Christ in urban youth ministry.
